The municipality of Genova selects Displaid's intelligent monitoring system for the continuous surveillance of three strategic infrastructure assets

Wireless sensor installation works will cover three city viaducts on Corso Europa, Via De Sanctis in Prà and Via Vallecrosia in Voltri. Genoa, 24 June 2026 - Installation of a wireless structural monitoring system across three city viaducts got underway in Genoa on Monday 22 June. Works are being carried out on the Castagna viaduct on Corso Europa, the bridge on Via De Sanctis in Pra', and the viaduct on Via Vallecrosia in Voltri. The initiative forms part of the Municipality's broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure safety through advanced technology and continuous, proactive monitoring. To this end, the administration has selected the system developed by Milan-based Displaid, a company specialising in predictive monitoring of bridges and viaducts with an established track record across Italian public sector clients. The solution covers the full project lifecycle: from sensor installation and data collection to ongoing structural assessment via a dedicated platform. <As we have been saying for months, the inspection, monitoring and safety of bridges and decks is one of the most pressing challenges facing our city,> said Mayor Silvia Salis. <It is clear that, with the resources available to the Municipality, we can only address the most urgent cases. There are currently 673 bridges and decks on record. We have repeatedly requested access to the post-Morandi bridge collapse compensation funds by renegotiating the existing agreements. We have finalised a deal with the Port Authority for approximately €4 million in funding, and are awaiting a response from the Liguria Region, which at a technical roundtable held at the Prefecture expressed willingness to provide a further €5 million.> <This initiative sits within the broader framework of actions required under the current Bridge Guidelines, as we work to build a robust management system for the road infrastructure of the city. The sensors will collect a range of structural data. Vibration analysis will be used to characterise modal behaviour and identify anomalies in the deck structure, while inclination measurements will monitor pier stability and beam deformation. The works are part of the city's ongoing infrastructure maintenance programme, aimed at raising monitoring standards, preserving structural integrity and ensuring the continued functionality of the urban road network. Installation is estimated to take four days and will not require full road closures, ensuring traffic flow is maintained throughout.
